A new five set victory for FVBK
11 feb 2018
FVBK played their 3rd five-set match in a row tonight. Tierp played a great match but eventually it was the home team who had a bit more to give as the long match came to an end.
FVBK 3 - 2 Tierp (21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 15-12)
Tierp seemed to be unfazed by the long trip to Falkenberg, as they took an early lead and controlled the first set. They made few mistakes, and had great energy which was something FVBK was clearly missing being unable to create their own plays. Tierp won the first set 21-25.
Despite their slow start Falkenberg came out aggressive in the second set serving tougher and some great attacking led by August Borna, who finished the night with a match best 18 points. Tierp however was still playing with confidence from the first set and the scores were tight again at 23-22. August delivered another attack to give his team set ball 24-22. After a Tierp sideout, Lucas Candido was able to finish the set 25-23 on a sharp crosscourt spike.
FVBK continued their momentum and confidence into the third set taking a big lead 6-1. This did not last long however as Falkenberg was fooled into thinking Tierp was ready to go home without a fight. Tierp battled back making the score 15-16 and continued to be successful in attacking and blocking. Falkenberg had their chances to take the set when Albin Becevic and Fayez Alloush came in to give the team new life, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to turn momentum back to FVBK. Tierp took the third set 20-25.
At this point it was difficult to guess which way the final set or sets would go. Tierp was playing with confidence and Falkenberg was very unstable. Coach Aparicio continued with the lineup from the end of the third set starting Albin as setter and Fayez as opposite. Albin did a good job finding Fayez, Pedro and the rest of his teammates in attack. The team played with a renewed vigor and were able to create extra scoring chances through improved block and defense. FVBK dominated winning 25-18.
The fifth set was of course an exciting one. Tierp led 7-8 at the switch, but it truly felt as though Tierp’s energy was fading while FVBK played with confidence in the last half of the 5th set. Daniel Gruvaeus made a pair of important sideout swings while Pedro Mendes stepped up with 2 blocks, 1 attack and an ace on match ball, 15-12!
FVBK plays an important away match on saturday versus 4th place Sollentuna. It will be an exciting finish to the series as every team hunts to get the best placement before the playoffs start.
