Spännande seger i premiären!
7 okt 2017
It was finally time for FVBK version 2017-2018 to show themselves for their faithful fans, and what a match to start the season off with. FVBK took early control but after the pause VVK raised their level, leading to an exciting FVBK comeback in the fourth set!
FVBK 3 - 1 VVK (25-21, 25-12, 23-25, 31-29)
The first set started off a little bit uneven from both sides, even if it felt as FVBK had control throughout most of the set. The home team's reception was not great, but the spikers Fayez Alloush, August Borna and Johan Gruvaeus did a good job of handling difficult situations. Meanwhile Victor Nielsen put VVK under even more pressure with well placed float serves.
The second set went by very quickly. FVBK maintained serve pressure, now with Fayez and Groovy showing their heavy spin serves. The key however was FVBK's reception leading to easy sideouts and the team feeling very much in rhythm.
The third set would see FVBK out of rhythm for the first time. Setter Albin Becevic did what he could to find the hot hitter but too many "unforced" attacking mistakes gave VVK the momentum they needed to extend the match to a fourth set.
VVK's inspired play continued well into the fourth set. English spiker Sam Shenton led the way and finished the day with 24 points. Things were not looking good when VVK led at 16-9. Things looked even worse when they maintained the lead all the way to 23-18. The coaching staff had already laid out multiple plans for the fifth set when suddenly the momentum shifted. Daniel Gruvaeus went back to the line and served 4 straight balls. During Daniel's service run, libero Edvin Swärd made some absolutely magnificent saves. The excitement continued as both teams fought incredibly hard giving each side respective match and set balls. Finally at 30-29, Alexander Gustafsson ended the match with a service ace!
We saw some great individual performances tonight. Johan Gruvaeus and Pedro Mendes both scored 20 points for example! It was the exciting finish that stole the show however. Fans were given a preview of the wild ride they have in store this season! Friends, family and fans are welcome to join us in Falkhallen and support the guys the whole way!
