5 sets seger borta mot Södertelge
3 dec 2016
Every point is important in the hunt for a Grand Prix place. FVBK had hoped to collect three points on the road versus Södertelge but will have to be satisfied with two. An inspired home team once again stretched the match to five sets.
Södertelge 2 - 3 FVBK (16-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 9-15)
FVBK started strong. A well balanced attack gave the team confidence and points seemed to come easily. Good serving led to defense opportunities. There were probably many in the hall who thought the match would continue in this tact, but that would not be the case. The match flipped around in the second set. Now it was FVBK who gave away easy points, mostly in attacking and serve misses.
In the third set, FVBK held down the misses, and even if the set was close all the way FVBK managed to maintain control from start to finish. Södertelge would not going away quietly however and bounced back in the fourth set. Once again a few too many attacking errors from FVBK gave the home team the 'easy' points they needed to keep the momentum throughout the set. FVBK made a strong push late in the set and was as close as 21-21 but SVBK was the steadier team and pushed the match to a decisive fifth set.
Södertelge has notoriously had trouble with fifth sets this season and FVBK made sure they felt this directly. We saw a collective lift in the level of play from all players and "won" the match when FVBK pushed their early lead from 7-5 to 11-5. One would like to have seen this level of play for longer periods earlier in the match, but at least it came forward when it mattered the most.
With two matches left, it is a tight race between FVBK, Örkelljunga and Habo for the last two spots in the Grand Prix. FVBK meets ÖVK on thursday in Skåne and Habo at home on sunday. We have an exciting week ahead of us in other words. Don't miss these key matches!
