Tuff borta match mot Tierp
2012-01-27For those of us who have been around the league a while, the words “borta match i Tierp på söndag” add a certain amount of stress. Along with it being the longest road trip of the year, Tierp Volley is lifted by its enthusiastic home crowd to new heights and somehow manage to make volleyball look easy…and subsequently annoying difficult for the visiting team!
Tierp this season has once again found a harmonious mix of local legends and talented imports. Together they’ve climbed to 3rd place in the series and find themselves in a race with Örkelljunga who have the same number of points. I have no doubt that both teams have already calculated which matches they need to win in order to avoid 4th place going in the playoffs and meeting Linköping in an eventual semifinal. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here…
If FVBK is to come home from Uppland with a victory, we’re going to have to slow down Americans Josh Riley and Dean Bittner. Dean arrived to Tierp in January and has shown a steadily increasing playing form. With experience from USA’s national B team he has the potential and experience to win matches for his team against any opponent in the league.
Our boys in blue however rarely walk away from a fight, and that’s what we can expect on sunday! Certain aspects of our game have been up and down recently but ‘team play’ has been steady, allowing us to stay close in tough matches and giving individuals room to lead when most needed. Most notable recently has been Rikard Bilger’s ability to find our englishmen Marc Richardson and Phil Smith. These two have proven to be hard to stop and I believe we’ve yet to see the best from them! One thing we know is…this weekend’s borta match will bring out the best in all of us. Anything less makes the bus ride home a whole lot loooonger
